Best Value Luxury Vehicles of 2020
Bmw M550I
Price: $77,000
To convey my point, the following paragraph will compare the M550I to a popular competitor, the Mercedes E63.
The BMW 5 series and Mercedes E-class have always been a beacon of both performance, luxury, and family practicality. Both of these cars also have a more track-focused, performance variant; The BMW M5, and the Mercedes E63s, which both offer similar performance. They finally offer a middle-of-the-pack model, the BMW M550I, and Mercedes E53s, which are both around 77,000 dollars. However, unlike the M5 and E63s, these vehicles are not similar. While the m550i has the option to have the interior available in the BMW 7 series, which is the flagship BMW model (the most luxurious, and the most expensive 4 door BMW entry vehicle), the Mercedes E53s does not offer the interior in the S-Class, or even the interior in the standard E-class(Which is much better). Instead, it has a sport-designed interior, with Mercedes branded vinyl (MB-tex) instead of a proper leather interior, which in a luxury car is blasphemy. Moreover, the performance of these two vehicles are very different. While the Mercedes E53s can hit 60 miles per hour from a standing start in 4.2 seconds (which is still pretty impressive), for the same price, the BMW can do it in 3.6 seconds, which is about as fast as a Aston Martin DB11 ($205,000), or a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso ($260,000).
Volvo S60
$37,750
Volvo cars have been praised for their comfort, reliability, and their practicality. The S60 is the quintessential entry-level sedan. The Scandinavian brand has taken almost every step possible to make the interior comfortable, while still relatively affordable. Features like the air filtration system, which improves air quality in the cabin and the Bowers and Wilkins sound system that provides pristine and clear sound really show how much Volvo cares about the satisfaction of their customers.
There are multiple trims that buyers can choose from for their Volvo. In fact, the first option Volvo provides you with is hybrid or fuel. There are 6 total trims, three of each. If you opt for the hybrid version, you could buy the Volvo S60 Polestar, the fastest Volvo on sale and the most expensive S60 trim ($64,800). The Polestar edition does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and has nearly 500 pounds per foot of torque.
Lincoln Aviator
$51,000
This luxury SUV from one of America’s most iconic brands is known for its beautiful interior and outstanding practicality. In fact, this was the reason why Autothink mentioned it in AutoThink’s Top 4 Luxury SUVs as the best 3-row SUVs. This car can compete with the competitors like the Mercedes GlS ($76,000), The BMW X7 (74,900), and the Cadillac Escalade ($76,000), all for less than 3/4 of the price.
People buy luxury SUVs because they need something practical. The Lincoln Aviator is exemplary of this. The trunk has a volume of 18 cubic feet when the third row seats are up, 40 cubic feet when only the second row is up, and 78 cubic feet when both are down. The one major problem with the vehicle is the gas mileage. It only gets 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on a highway. In reality, these numbers would be significantly less. To put these numbers in perspective, the Porsche 911 has the same mpg.
